Mayo Clinic Expert Team Revisits Heyou International Health System

Release time:2025-10-30

From August 19 to 22, a team of experts from Mayo Clinic revisited Heyou International Health System for a four-day follow-up trip on quality, safety, and nursing projects.

The two sides engaged in in-depth exchanges through clinical visits, thematic seminars, and project reviews, focusing on key topics such as quality control dashboard building, implementation of International Patient Safety Goals (IPSG), nursing capacity training, and leadership development, supporting Heyou in building a benchmark for international medical quality.

Clinical Visits by Mayo Experts

Quality Dashboard Building: Holistic Data-Driven Management

During the seminar on Real-Time Quality Control Dashboard, the Mayo team recognized Heyou's dynamic visualization of key indicators such as the mortality rate and unplanned reoperation rate.

Ms. Zhang Min, Director of Heyou's Quality Management Department, demonstrated the real-time data monitoring system to Mayo experts. Currently, Heyou's quality control dashboard has integrated multiple medical data sources, including the medical record, nursing, and hospital infection systems, enabling dynamic monitoring and closed-loop management of key clinical indicators. Driven by data, Heyou keeps optimizing healthcare quality management.

Focus on Patient Safety: Precision from Standards to Practice

At the "International Patient Safety Goals (IPSG)" seminar, Mayo experts and Heyou's medical management team conducted a systematic review and in-depth discussion on 6 core areas, including medication safety, fall prevention, and surgical safety verification.

The Department of Pharmacy has established a robust medication safety net, a system that centers on the full-cycle closed-loop management of high-alert drugs and features innovative measures such as visual zoning of look-alike/sound-alike (LASA) drugs. The Department of Nursing shared a multi-dimensional fall prevention system, integrating real-time alerts via smart wristband, IT system dynamic monitoring, anti-slip patient trousers, and pressure-sensing mattresses, etc., forming a dual protection mechanism featuring technology innovation and humanistic care.

In patient identification, Heyou Hospital has optimized verification content and improved checking protocol and procedure, incorporating its emphasis on patient safety into every detail of medical care. Mayo's expert team commended Heyou for "deeply embedding the safety culture into its medical operating system, which is the key to building a high-quality healthcare system".

Nursing Advancement: Parallel Paths of Layered Empowerment and Leadership

The nursing session focused on talent development and leadership enhancement. Heyou's nursing team showed its training system based on Mayo's TSAMTM tiered skills model, employing scenario-based training and mentorship programs to match nurses' advancing capabilities precisely with job requirements and elevate nursing care standards.

The two sides also engaged in dynamic and in-depth discussions on building a talent pool of nursing leaders, creating a stable and high-quality talent reservoir, and enhancing core leadership competencies of current and future nursing managers. The exchanges laid a solid foundation for the long-term development of Heyou's nursing team.

Clinical Visits: Model Wards and Joint Medical-Nursing Rounds

Mayo experts also visited the Oncology Center and Cardiovascular Department, and participated in shift handovers and joint rounds with medical and nursing staff. They offered professional guidance on Chinese and American ward rounds, focus areas, and doctor-patient communication strategies, providing valuable experience to further enhance the standardization and effectiveness of clinical communication.

During this follow-up visit, Mayo Clinic highly praised Heyou for its progress on nearly 40 proposed improvement initiatives in less than one year.

Looking ahead, Heyou will continue to draw on Mayo Clinic's century-long experience in medical quality management. Underpinned by the cornerstone of patient safety, and powered by the twin pillars of quality & safety management and talent development, the Hospital will continue to enhance healthcare services and shape a high-standard model of "quality healthcare" in the Greater Bay Area.
